Wildlife Rescues
Wildlife rescues are a common and necessary thing and happen on a regular basis . Most rescues are taken straight to Hessilhead Wildlife Hospital at Beith after first aid has been administered.
Sunday 11 th December
Gavin found a beautiful grey , female tawny owl that had been hit by a car She was very lethargic and we were unsure if she would survive the trip to Hessilhead but we had to try. She made the trip and was actually a little more active by the time we arrived . Unfortunately her wing was badly broken at the shoulder and her leg was also broken . She had to be put down as neither break would heal properly . After death we were able to feel the break in her wing and Gavin was shown her ears which are very large and at different heights on her head to enable sounds to be picked up more successfully .
Monday 14th November
Wood pigeon found having been hit by a car on Culcreuch Castle Drive . Wing too badly broken and leg . Also had fungal infection in mouth causing it to be unable to eat correctly resulting in being underweight . It had to be put down I am afraid .
Wednesday 26th October .
Tiny mole appeared stuck in a cattle grid unable to climb out . Extracted him and checked him over ; he seemed ok so was released into the farmers field.

Young wood pigeon handed into vet in Stirling . Please would I collect and transport to Hessilhead if appropriate.
Appeared in OK condition just too young to survive in wild . Taken across to the wildlife hospital.
Enquired after hedgehog taken on Thursday of last week . A dislocated front leg. Was in a ‘stookie’ hopefully OK .
Thursday 13th October 2011
Release from trap and transport to Hessilhead a large adult hedgehog . One of the front feet had been trapped and was swollen but thankfully still warm so hopefully still had an adequate blood supply to mean full recovery .

Called to rescue a cygnet that had become entangled in a sheep fence and had its wing caught. Was released by caller and I went to pick up and transport to Hessilhead.
Cygnet ready for transport
Was found to be lethargic and underweight but over next couple of days was eating and hopefully will recover.
