Yodi

Yodi came to us in July 2001 from GAL [greyhound awareness league ]. She had been run over as a pup resulting in her right front leg needing to be amputated leaving a 3 inch stump. She has since had the stump removed . She had also been badly treated and had been handed over to GAL as the owners could not take care of her as they lived in a flat ,the woman was pregnant and , as Yodi was ‘ a hyper dog ‘ and ‘ unmanageable ‘could GAL find a home for her . She has settled in well , is a very affectionate dog and is now a Therapy dog .  For this she has to be a calm , gentle , loving and obedient dog and must enjoy the company of people . Despite her ‘three leggedness ‘ she can run like the wind.

Rags

Rags came to us on January 17th 2002 after spending the previous three months in the Glasgow Dog and Cat home. She was found wandering in Pollock and placed in the dog home to await re-homing . NO-ONE was interested in having her because she was three legged.  She too has settled in well.  She is a very affectionate dog but cannot cope with raised voices and is a little unsure of either dogs or people playing .  This will hopefully disappear as she becomes more confident .  Rags has learnt to pick her own raspberries – from Kizzy!

Kizzy

Kizzy arrived unexpectedly on February 4th 2002, we were not looking for another dog but had to help this wee pup . She was only 16 weeks old ; was from racing greyhound parents and had been rescued as a 5 week old pup from a greyhound breeder as she had a deformed front leg . Normally she would have been destroyed at birth.  At the time of rescue it was decided that the front leg would have to be amputated as she wasn’t using it and it was giving her some pain .Fortunately it was decided to wait until she was older before the operation . At 6 months  it was decided not to amputate as she was now using the leg most of the time and it didn’t seem to be causing any problems . She is another affectionate dog and is learning to be obedient . She and Yodi are APPALLING thieves stealing anything edible and even some things that aren’t . She loves bananas, dandelion flowers, and also raspberries which she picks herself ! She is also a  Therapy dog

Milo

Milo our lovely big lurcher boy  lives with one  of the volunteer families and enjoys  a spoiled life with his human friends . Like lots of greyhound types he has problems with his toes and has had to have one amputated as well as most of his tail due to trauma .

Ty

Ty is the youngest of our canine pals at present born in 2010 and came to us because she had been taken into the vets to be destroyed as ’ unwanted ‘ .  If no home was forthcoming she would have been put down. As one of our volunteers was looking for a dog suitable to be with young children Ty fitted the bill.  She too is enjoying a spoilt life with her human and feline pal- Elvis

Flag

Here is wee Flag. Travelled all the way from Romania to join us at Glendrick Roost.  She has a back leg which she cannot use and a deformed front leg, in addition to being blind.  She has had a miserable life in the past in a dog rehoming centre however will hopefully have a much happier life in Scotland with her new family at the Roost.  She is already much more confident and much less scared than she was when she arrived.
